UK Job Hunt | Landing a Role in 2 Months — A Practical Guide
Looking back at my job search two and a half years ago,
I can truly empathize with the anxiety and stress of job hunting 😖
I want to summarize my experience and hope it can help others 💁♀️
⏳ Timeline
April — Prepared portfolio and CV
Early May — Sent out first round of applications
(Target: international companies’ graduate schemes)
Mid-May — Revised portfolio and applied for second round
(Focused on selected UK local firms)
Early June — Still no responses :( Sent out third round
(New openings and another batch of firms)
Mid-June — Received 4 interview invitations
Late June — Secured an offer
July — Successfully started the job
🗞️ Architecture-related job hunting is highly targeted
Different types of firms require different strategies.
⏱️ Timing Matters
▫️ Large international or UK firms
Often run graduate schemes. Check official websites regularly — many open in summer/winter, though some open year-round.
▫️ Mid-sized and small firms
Hiring depends on project needs. Keep an eye on their websites.
▫️ Small studios
Even if there’s no listing, it’s worth emailing to ask about opportunities.
📚 Portfolio
I revised my portfolio and CV multiple times.
Adjusted layout and project order for firms with different styles.
Personally, I found this very necessary.
📎 Referrals
Getting referral opportunities is also extremely important.
