Apple MKT interview difficulty is truly something to behold.
Do any of you feel the same—that being able to do Marketing at Apple is the ultimate dream (“white moonlight”) for every marketer? I’ve整理了 (compiled) my interview experience to share as a reference for everyone~
Interviewers often ask open-ended questions like:
“Which of our products is your favorite? How would you improve it?”
“Design a new app for visually impaired users—how would you approach it?”
There are no standard answers to these questions. They mainly assess your product understanding, user insight, and business thinking. During my interview, I barely managed to hold it together by relying on the following three frameworks 👇👇
💓 Framework 1: User–Scenario–Need–Solution
This is a very basic but versatile framework. When asked to design or improve a product, don’t jump straight into features. Start from the user:
Who is your target user?
In what scenario will they use the product?
What is their core need?
Then propose your solution.
For example, when improving the fitness features of Apple Watch:
You could define the user as “beginners who just started working out.” Their scenario is “going to the gym after work.” Their need is “not knowing how to use equipment properly and needing professional guidance.”
Your solution could be “a built-in feature with professional coach video guidance.”
💓 Framework 2: AARRR Model
This model is mainly used for product growth and operations. AARRR stands for Acquisition, Activation, Retention, Revenue, and Referral.
If the interviewer asks, “How would you promote a new Apple Arcade game?” you can structure your strategy with this framework.
For example:
In the Acquisition stage, you could suggest social media ads and KOL collaborations to gain new users.
In the Activation stage, you could use onboarding missions or limited-time free access to drive the first core experience.
💓 Framework 3: SWOT Analysis
Although a bit classic, this framework is very useful for analyzing competition and setting market strategies.
For example, if asked, “What are the strengths and weaknesses of Apple Music compared to Spotify?” …
(Content omitted due to length.)
During interviews, frameworks are just tools to support your thinking. More importantly, you need to demonstrate clear logic and empathy for users. One more thing—Apple is a company that highly values user experience, so all your analysis should return to the core principle of “creating value for users.”
