UK Full-Time Job Experience Sharing!
2023 PSW holder, 200+ applications, 6 interviews — hard-earned lessons (personal experience)
Finding a job in the UK really requires a strong mindset! You may need a part-time job to support yourself while continuing to apply after receiving rejection emails every day. That period was truly tough. When you lose confidence, you start to fear you have no future — then an interview invitation arrives and gives you hope again.
🌟 Key takeaways:
1️⃣ Language ability is fundamental
Your English needs to support daily conversations, phone calls, and email communication. Don’t worry too much about your accent — in a multicultural environment, some accents can be even harder to understand. My job involves many medical terms, but that didn’t affect getting an offer because unfamiliar things can be learned.
2️⃣ Small talk is a hidden skill
Keep “You alright?” and “How are you?” on your lips! I can now reply “Good, you?” automatically. Talking about the weather or weekend plans can really help in interviews and social situations.
3️⃣ Persistence wins
Don’t be discouraged by rejection! Treat every interview as a learning and speaking practice opportunity. Review your answers and ask interviewers for feedback. I was lucky — the University of Leeds once gave me four pages of feedback, which helped a lot.
However, due to personal career plans, I eventually decided to return to my home country. Before leaving, I’d like to recommend my company to everyone:
There are many customer service roles in Manchester right now, such as:
🔸 Booking Advisor (phone/email customer service) — likely requires strong speaking skills
🔸 Webchat Online Booking (online communication focused) — lower speaking requirement
